Animals by Maroon 5
I found this song interesting because of the prey/predator
idea behind it. It kind of answered Shakira’s She Wolf song where she, the
woman, is the animal and has needs that need to be fulfilled. Meanwhile in
Animals by Maroon 5, the man is the predator on the hunt for “prey” so
he can fulfill his needs as well. I thought it was interesting how although
Animals is kind of demeaning towards woman with the blood all over the girl in
the video and Adam Levine kind of watching her and stalking her, it’s still a
very popular song just because it’s catchy. I know I never actually paid
attention to the lyrics of this song until I really listened to it and read the
lyrics.
I remember the first time I saw the music video of this song and I then thought that it was so creepy. It enforces the ideas of men being dominant and women being submissive.
